Common Core Mathematics and English Learners

English language learners must learn both how to acquire enough of a second language to participate in an academic setting while at the same time, gaining an understanding of the knowledge and skills in mathematics through that second language. This session will address the underlying English language practices necessary for students to become proficient in the Standards for Mathematical Practice by examining the SMP through the lens of language use. This will include analyzing tasks and focusing on receptive language functions as well as productive language functions.
